New Haven motorcyclist dead after crashing into gate on State Street

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Haven man was killed after a three-wheeled motorcycle crashed into a gate on State Street, according to police. Officers responded to the 600 block of State Street around 5:43 a.m. Saturday on a report of a motor vehicle crash with major injuries. When officers arrived, they found a slingshot-style three-wheeled motorcycle that had crashed into the gate of a building. The motorcyclist, a 34-year-old man, was found underneath the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the caller who reported the crash did not witness the incident and was not involved. Investigators believe the motorcycle had been traveling south on State Street before the crash and that the collision may have occurred several hours before it was reported. The New Haven Police Department said no other vehicle is believed to have been involved. The Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
