New Details in fatal El Dorado County American River crash: Child dies, victim identified
(FOX40.COM) — A 5-year-old boy died at the hospital after a car crashed into the American River in El Dorado County on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said officers responded to reports of a car crashing into the American River around 4 p.m. along eastbound Highway 50 just east of Ice House Road. The passenger in the car, identified as 35-year-old Maria Fife, died at the scene, CHP said. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Matthew Fife, was taken to the hospital, along with an 11-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy. CHP said the 5-year-old boy died at the hospital, while the 11-year-old remains in the hospital with suspected serious injuries. The man was left with suspected minor injuries, CHP said. The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
