Motorcyclist seriously injured in multi-vehicle crash in Del Mar Heights

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 71-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash in the Del Mar Heights neighborhood, authorities said. According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision was reported around 3:16 p.m. in the 13800 block of Mango Drive. Police said the motorcyclist was riding a 2017 Ducati northbound when a 51-year-old woman driving a a 2025 Chevy Traxx exited a parking lot on the east side of Mango Drive and attempted to make a left turn. Investigators say the driver turned directly into the path of the rider, leading to a collision. The motorcyclist then struck a third vehicle — a 2017 Lexus driven by a 21-year-ol man traveling southbound — before being ejected from the Ducati. First responders transported the rider to a local hospital with serious injuries, including a compound fracture and an open tibia/fibula fracture to his right leg. Officials said the injuries are not considered life-threatening. Authorities said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. SDPD's Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
