Motorcycle crash on Kalanianaole Highway claims life of man, 39

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A two-motorcycle crash near Halona Blowhole resulted in the death of a 39-year-old man during the nighttime hours of March 6. According to the Honolulu Police Department, the motorcyclist was driving westbound on Kalanianaole Highway at about 10 p.m. when he rear-ended another male motorcyclist, a 23-year-old. After hitting the other bike, the man lost control and collided into the guardrail, police said. He was then thrown off of his bike onto the roadway, investigators said. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services transported him to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The man was not wearing a helmet during the crash, police said. The man on the other motorcycle was not injured during the crash. This marks the tenth traffic fatality on Oahu this year, down from 16 at the same time last year. Police are investigating the crash.
