Morning collisions on US 90 and La. 1 leave two dead, LSP says

On Feb. 12, 2026, shortly after 6 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90 near Cypress Drive in Lafourche Parish. The crash killed 52-year-old Kenneth McMillan of New Orleans.Troopers said McMillan was driving a 2023 Toyota RAV4 east on Highway 90. A 2021 Chevrolet Colorado was heading west. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota left the road, crossed the median and hit the Chevrolet head-on.McMillan suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. The Chevrolet driver had moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital outside the area. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.Troopers collected toxicology samples from both drivers. The crash is still under investigation.Later that morning, shortly after 10 a.m., Troop C began investigating a crash involving a cyclist on Louisiana Highway 1 near Bayou Vista Drive. The crash killed 61-year-old Wayne Mayet of Thibodaux.Troopers said Mayet tried to cross Highway 1 from the southbound shoulder to the northbound shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, he did not yield and was hit by a 2025 Ford F-450 heading south.Mayet suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. He was not wearing a helmet. The F-450 driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.The driver showed no signs of impairment and gave a voluntary breath sample that showed no alcohol. Troopers collected a toxicology sample from Mayet. The crash is also still under investigation.
