More details emerge about a fatal crash involving Fort Bragg soldiers as liquor license dispute extends for Chapel Hill bar
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — As the fate of the state liquor license for a Chapel Hill bar hangs in the balance, more details have emerged about what happened in the bar on the night that two Fort Bragg soldiers and a third person died in a DWI crash. Commissioners with the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control met for the second month in a row about revoking the ABC license for Still Life, a bar in Chapel Hill, which has met a fair share of scrutiny after multiple underage people served alcohol have died in car crashes. During the meeting, commissioners said a new round of evidence had to be reviewed before deciding whether or not to revoke Still Life's license. Commissioners decided to table discussions regarding the Chapel Hill bar for a later date. More details were shared regarding the night in February when U.S. Army Pfc. Aydrian Larusch, Spc. Romeo Mason Fleck and Spc. Charles Arthur Jackson went to Still Life. An NC Alcohol Law Enforcement affidavit shared with CBS 17 showed that Larusch, who was underage, was served by Still Life employees. According to the affidavit, surveillance footage showed Larusch going up to the bar to order a vodka and Red Bull mixed drink four times between 11:34 p.m. and 12:50 a.m. According to NC ALE, Larusch was only carded at the door by security. A witness interviewed by NC ALE told them that Anthony Wise III, the bouncer of Still Life, gave Larusch a wristband despite his ID indicating that he was underage, according to the affidavit. CBS 17 previously reported that Wise, as well as Sharif Abuhatoum (ABC permittee), employees Cameron Michael Renna and Bonnie Zhang were all charged with serving alcohol to underage people that night. After leaving Still Life, the three soldiers were heading home when they crashed head-on into another vehicle, leaving three people dead. Spc. Fleck and Spc. Jackson were among the two who died. The investigation into that crash was conducted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
