Monterey Co.: 3 Killed In Suspected Dui Crash On State Highway 1
Three people were killed Saturday night when a driver who was accused of being intoxicated allegedly caused a collision on state Highway 1 in Monterey County. The fatal wreck occurred at about 10:15 p.m. when a GMC pickup truck that was driven by 51-year-old David Olaeta allegedly went into the opposing lanes, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol. Olaeta was going southbound when he allegedly drifted into the northbound lanes just north of Springfield Road. He allegedly sideswiped a Ford pickup truck before slamming head-on into a Honda Sedan occupied by three men. One person in the Ford was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, CHP said. All three occupants of the Honda were also taken to a hospital, where all three died from their injuries. Olaeta allegedly showed signs of intoxication from alcohol after the crash, according to CHP.
