Mock accident demonstration urges students to make safe choices
COLLINS — Students at Western Reserve High School were given a powerful reminder about the dangers of impaired driving ahead of prom and graduation season, as the Student Council sponsored a realistic mock accident demonstration. The April 24 event brought together multiple local emergency response agencies to simulate the aftermath of a serious crash caused by drinking and driving. Participants included members of the Townsend Township Fire Department, Wakeman Fire Department, Citizens Ambulance, ProMedica Life Flight, Huron County Sheriff's Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Evans Funeral Home. Through the coordinated effort, students witnessed firsthand how first responders handle a crash scene — from emergency medical care to accident investigation — highlighting the real-life consequences that can follow a single poor decision. Organizers say the goal of the demonstration is to leave a lasting impression on students, encouraging them to think twice before getting behind the wheel under the influence or riding with someone who is impaired. As prom and graduation celebrations approach, school officials and community partners hope the message resonates: make safe choices, look out for one another, and ensure that a night of celebration doesn't end in tragedy.
