MHP reports two deadly crashes during Christmas holiday

Two individuals tragically lost their lives on Mississippi highways over the Christmas holiday. The Mississippi Highway Patrol's 2025 Christmas Holiday Travel Period started on Dec. 23 at 6 a.m. and concluded on Dec. 26 at midnight. Throughout this time frame, troopers issued 4,130 citations, arrested 69 individuals for impaired driving, and cited 477 drivers for seat belt infractions. The MHP also responded to 195 accidents resulting in 47 injuries and two fatalities. The first fatal accident occurred in Lauderdale County on Christmas Eve when Daniel Garris, 50, was struck by a vehicle while walking on Interstate 59. The second fatality took place on Dec. 26 in Lincoln County when Martin Dunn, 68, lost his life in a tanker truck accident. MHP will continue to have increased patrols for the upcoming New Year's holiday.
