Metrobus crashes into DC restaurant after collision involving SUV, officials say
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a Metrobus crashed into a Washington, D.C. restaurant following a collision involving an SUV, according to officials. The DC Fire and EMS Department said crews responded to the crash at 7th and Q Streets NW, in the Shaw neighborhood, just after 7:10 a.m. At the scene, responders found a Metrobus partially inside the Ambar Restaurant. Photos from the scene show the Metrobus crashed into the business on the sidewalk. Officials noted that the restaurant was unoccupied at the time. The Shaw location typically opens for brunch at 10 a.m. on weekends. Images also show the involved SUV damaged in the roadway, with a cracked windshield, damaged rear and airbags deployed. The Metro Transit Police Department said the SUV crashed into the Metrobus, causing it to crash into the building. The fire department said crews evaluated four people. However, responders only transported three women— the bus driver, a passenger and the driver of the SUV— with minor injuries. In an update shortly after noon, officials said crews had fully removed the Metrobus with no "major structural integrity" issues.
