Medical helicopter requested after Interstate 95 car crash: CCFR
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) - Crews responded to a multi-vehicle collision in a construction zone on Interstate 95 near mile marker 42 in Colleton County on Wednesday night. Colleton County Fire-Rescue and the South Carolina Highway Patrol were sent to the scene after a collision between a Dodge Durango and a Cadillac Escalade just after 9 p.m. Officials said the Escalade was stopped and hauling a boat when the Durango crashed into it while traveling south on Interstate 95. Firefighter-paramedics arrived soon after the collision and began treating the Durango driver, who had reportedly suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Neither occupant of the Escalade reported any injuries. A medical helicopter and CARE flight were requested, which landed on I-95. The injured driver was flown to a hospital in North Charleston. Officials said the interstate was blocked for about an hour, causing traffic to back up for several miles. The incident is being investigated by S.C. Highway Patrol.
