Medical emergency caused police cruiser crash on CBBT, according to official

(WAVY) - The driver of the police cruiser that flipped on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in May had a medical emergency prior to the crash, according to a CBBT official. The crash occurred on the southbound span of the tunnel around 12:40 p.m. on May 20. The crash took out multiple sections of guardrail, and left the vehicle partially hanging over the open bay. The officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution following the crash. CBBT deputy executive director Tom Anderson told 10 On Your Side that the driver of the police vehicle had a medical emergency, which led to the crash. As a result, they will not face any charges.
