Manhattan teen accused of causing fatal crash that claimed life of Overland Park man
An individual from Overland Park has passed away and another person has been taken to the hospital after a collision south of Manhattan on Tuesday. The Kansas Highway Patrol disclosed the incident occurred just before 11:10 a.m. on Dec. 2 near mile-marker 101 on northbound Pillsbury Drive/KS-177 Highway, close by the Konza Prairie lookout point. According to KHP, a 2005 Ford Super Duty and a 2012 Hyundai Accent were both heading north in the right lane on KS-177 when they collided. The Ford rear-ended the Hyundai, causing the vehicles to come to a stop on opposite sides of the road. The driver of the Hyundai, 54-year-old James E. Echols from Overland Park, tragically died in the crash, while a 52-year-old Las Vegas woman who was a passenger in the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
