Man punished for causing harm to ethanol factory

A Clearfield resident recently faced legal repercussions after a car accident that caused significant damage to an ethanol plant in East End in December 2024. Duane Scott Starr, 26, was found guilty of driving under the influence and charged with serious offenses. As part of his sentencing by Judge Paul E. Cherry, Starr was ordered to pay restitution totaling over $500,000 for the damages caused. The accident, which occurred in Clearfield Borough, involved Starr's vehicle colliding with an electric pole, resulting in a power outage at the ethanol plant. Starr admitted to consuming alcohol before the accident, and tests revealed the presence of alcohol, Clonazepam, and THC in his system. This incident led to financial losses for the Pennsylvania Grain Processing plant, disrupting their operations and resulting in damages to equipment.
