Man killed in crash on northwest side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was killed in a crash on the northwest side of Indianapolis Saturday night. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 5300 block of North High School Road around 10:08 p.m. to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from serious injuries lying in the middle of the roadway. IMPD confirmed that the man was transported from the scene to a local hospital in "very serious condition." The man was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:52 p.m. Police confirmed that an SUV was involved in the crash. The driver of the SUV remained on scene after the crash and spoke with investigators. Officers do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, though the driver involved in the incident will be still be subjected to chemical testing in compliance with state law. IMPD indicated that it is searching for individuals who may have witnessed the crash. As of Saturday night, police had not identified any "independent witnesses" who may have seen the crash. "I'd like to take this opportunity to remind people that, right now, it's warm, a lot more people out," IMPD Night Watch Captain Don Weilhammer said during a media briefing Saturday night. "But we also have the weather that is involved too with rain off and on making the streets somewhat slick. So, slow down, even though you might be doing the speed limit, consider dropping the speed limit down to five or 10 below when you're driving in weather like this."
