Man killed in crash involving dump truck in Yates County
Torrey, N.Y. — A fatal crash in Yates County is under investigation on Friday. Yates County Sheriff's deputies responded to State Route 54 in Torrey just before 11:40 p.m. for a report of a crash. An investigation determined that a 1999 White Sterling dump truck was traveling eastbound on State Route 54 when the unloaded dump truck braked abruptly to avoid hitting a car that was on State Route 14, which was attempting to make a left turn onto State Route 54. The operator of the car avoided a collision with the dump truck, but the dump truck was unable to maintain its lane and crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2015 gray Chevrolet Silverado, ejecting the dump truck driver from the truck, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office. The 59-year-old operator of the Chevy Silverado, was pronounced dead on the scene. The dump truck driver was transported to Geneva General Hospital and later flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital, according to deputies. The other driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The victim killed in the crash has not been identified by police. The crash stills remains under investigation. ________
