Man indicted in fatal crash of VDOT worker in Sussex County
SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) -- A 59-year-old man was indicted in connection with a July 1 crash that killed one Virginia Department of Transportation worker and injured another on Route 640 in Sussex County. According to Virginia State Police, an investigation indicated that a 2014 International Prostar tractor trailer struck a Virginia Department of Transportation crash struck in the right lane of Route 460 near George Town Road at approximately 1:35 p.m. on July 1. The tractor trailer then crossed lanes and struck a second VDOT vehicle before hitting an embankment and a third VDOT vehicle. Two VDOT employees working outside were injured and taken to a local hospital. One of the employees, identified as 40-year-old Robert D. Cox, eventually succumbed to his injuries. State police said Thurman Taylor, 59, was indicted Friday on charges of involuntary manslaughter and unlawful wounding. He was previously charged with failure to move over.
