Man from Sterling Heights accused in fatal drunk driving accident in Commerce Township
A man from Sterling Heights, Michigan, named Kevin Joseph Koldys, has been charged with a felony following a fatal crash in Oakland County. The charge is related to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in a death. He was arraigned recently and is being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $25,000 bond. A probable cause conference is scheduled for December 30, with a preliminary exam set for January 7. The incident involved a three-car collision on Pontiac Trail at Martin Parkway in Commerce Township, where Matthew John Szakal, 30, from Waterford Township, tragically lost his life. Koldys, driving a Lexus RC, sustained serious injuries in the crash. The third driver, a 64-year-old woman from Wixom, driving a Honda CR-V, suffered minor injuries. Reports indicate that Koldys, traveling northbound on M-5, veered off the road, drove through grass and weeds, re-entered the road, jumped a curb in a roundabout, and struck the Chevrolet, pushing it into the Honda.
