Man from Aurora receives nine-year sentence for deadly DUI crash in 2023.
An Aurora man, Joshua Crye, was given a nine-year prison sentence for causing a fatal crash while driving under the influence. State’s Attorney Robert Berlin of DuPage County announced the sentence on Monday. Prosecutors sought a maximum term of 14 years for Crye, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated DUI causing death. The tragic incident occurred on April 6, 2023, around 9 p.m. on Eola Road in Aurora. Crye was driving his Ford Escape at 85 miles per hour when he veered across the median, colliding with Nicole Dickerson’s car. The impact also involved a third vehicle. Crye’s blood alcohol level was found to be 0.183, well above the legal limit. Crye, who has been in custody since June 2023, will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence under Illinois law before being eligible for parole.
