Man dies in Milan crash
MILAN TWP. — A man is dead as a result of a single-vehicle crash in Milan Township late Saturday night. Just before 11 p.m., Erie County Sheriff's Office dispatchers received an automatic crash notification that was pinging near Berlin Street. A deputy who arrived investigated a wooded area that runs along the east side of the road and noticed an oil slick on a creek, according to Sheriff Paul Sigsworth. The deputy followed the slick and discovered a wrecked Lincoln MKZ. The driver was located outside of the vehicle. At that point, the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called in to investigate the crash. Jacob A. Lehrer, 30, of Sandusky, was operating the MKZ southbound on River Road, according to a patrol media release. He failed to stop at a stop sign at Ohio 113 and drove straight into a wooded ravine. The vehicle overturned and Lehrer was ejected. He suffered fatal injuries, the release states. Groff Funeral Home removed Lehrer from the scene and first responders then cut some trees near Berlin Street so a tow truck operator could pull the smashed vehicle from the woods. Berlin Street was closed between Elm Street and Ohio 113 for more than three hours. The crash remains under investigation.
