Man dies in hospital after car rolls off I-75 South in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A man died in the hospital on Tuesday after state police said his car crashed into a rock wall shortly after he said he was in pain. Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced in a news release that just after 3 p.m. on Feb. 24, Rex Loveless, 58, was driving a 2021 Dodge Charger on I-75 South near Mount Vernon. State police wrote that Loveless's wife was a passenger in the Charger who told authorities that Rex pulled onto the right shoulder of the highway and started complaining that he was in pain. "Mrs. Loveless stated the vehicle subsequently rolled off the shoulder and struck the rock wall," KSP troopers wrote in Tuesday's news release. Rockcastle County emergency personnel took Loveless to Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Investigators said Rex's wife was not hurt in the crash and that the next of kin was present at the scene. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing, led by Trooper Calder.
