Man dies in ‘fatal workplace accident’ in Buckhannon
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Marion County man is dead after what deputies describe as a "fatal workplace accident" at an Upshur County lumber mill. According to a release from the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, on June 9 at around 3 p.m., deputies responded to a report of an industrial accident at the Appalachian Forest Products facility in Buckhannon. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they located Michael D. Martin, 73, of Mannington, who "had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the incident." He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, adding that the Upshur County Sheriff's Office is "working in cooperation with appropriate workplace safety and regulatory agencies to determine the events that led to the incident."
