Man detained in Collier County for fleeing fatal hit-and-run scene
A man has been arrested by troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol for fleeing the scene of a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist in Collier County. According to FHP, Silvestre Jeconias Mejia Velasquez, 22, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe on State Road 29 when the vehicle collided with a bicyclist attempting to cross the road. The bicyclist sustained critical injuries and later passed away in the hospital on Jan. 10. After the collision, Velasquez fled the scene, but he was located by troopers and arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal crash. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
