Man charged after fatal DWI crash in Camden County
CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Law enforcement has reported an arrest of a man after a fatal crash in Camden County on Friday, June 12. According to online court dockets, Dylan Gibson, 27, of Columbia, Missouri, has been charged with DWI - death of another and with DWI- serious physical injury in Camden County Circuit Court. In a Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) crash report, the incident occured as the 27-year-old was driving a 2018 BMW X3 around 6:22 p.m. on Missouri Route 5 at Niangua Bridge on Friday. Officials claim that Gibson and a 63-year-old from Roach, Missouri, driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander, struck each other head-on. During the incident, MSHP noted that the 27-year-old was traveling with a 22-year-old Columbia, Missouri, man, who sustained serious injuries. An MSHP online arrest report said Gibson was placed in custody around 6:53 p.m. by Troop F. MSHP says in a probable cause statement that Gibson was seen throwing alcoholic shooters off the bridge when a trooper first arrived at the scene of the event. Gibson was detained in a patrol car, who was said to have a strong odor of intoxicants from his breath and person, with slurred and mumbled speech. Law enforcement reported Gibson's blood alcohol concentration was .233 percent, the statement says. When asked how the incident occurred, Gibson pointed to the road, saying he was driving "this way" when someone ran into him. Officials note that while being transported to the hospital, Gibson admitted to passing a vehicle, and another car hit him. Witnesses later told troopers they had seen the Gibson's BMW weaving all over the roadway before the event. The 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at Lake Regional Hospital, MSHP says in the crash report. Gibson's passenger was transported by helicopter to University Hospital for his injuries, the report states. This is the fourth traffic fatality for June and the 29th for 2026 for Troop F. Gibson is in the Camden County Jail with no bond.
