Man accused of being DUI in fatal crash indicted in Barbour County
PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Barbour County Grand Jury handed up indictments on Tuesday for 11 people, most notable of which was a Clarksburg man who has been accused of driving under the influence in a crash that killed a woman last year. Chadley Claypool, 40, of Clarksburg, was arrested on Dec. 2, 2025, after a criminal complaint says he and a passenger crashed after going over an embankment on WCW Coal Company Road in Philippi. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies with the Barbour County Sheriff's Department said at the time that they conducted a search of the vehicle and Claypool's clothes, which yielded presumed fentanyl, a “baggie with a crystal-like substance residue" and more than $1,000 in cash with his "blood on it." Deputies also spoke with a witness who was with the pair prior to the crash. That witness said that Claypool and the passenger had "just left" a residence and “were en route to deliver controlled substances to an individual located in Harrison County,” the complaint said. Claypool was charged at the time with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to deliver controlled substances. He was indicted on Tuesday on the following: Chadley was initially booked into the North Central Regional Jail at the time of his arrest, but has been confined in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail since Dec. 24, 2025, where he is being held on two separate 100,000 bonds.
