Man accused in deadly parking lot collision nearly one year after incident
A man from Burlington has been accused of fatally hitting his co-worker with his car in a Menards store parking lot last year, resulting in the death of Cody Dorn. Alex Meike, aged 21, has been charged this week with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. Meike reportedly informed the police that Dorn had requested him to back up his vehicle to load items into the trunk. However, Meike mistakenly put his car in drive instead of park, hitting Dorn. He then attempted to correct this by placing the car in reverse, but once again put it in drive, striking Dorn for a second time. The criminal complaint reveals that the state patrol inspected Meike's car and found no mechanical faults.
