Major intersection in Lantana closed amid crash investigation
One person was killed in a traffic crash at the intersection of East Ocean Avenue and Dixie Highway in Lantana on Tuesday, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.The collision began when a Jeep Wrangler heading southbound struck a Chevy truck and fled toward Ocean Avenue at a high rate of speed. The Jeep then rear-ended another vehicle, causing a chain reaction crash.Initial arriving units found extensive damage to two vehicles involved in the crash. Three people required about 10 minutes of heavy extrication to remove them from the wreckage. One person was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. The other two individuals were flown by Palm Beach County Health Care District TraumaHawk helicopters to a trauma center. Alcohol or drugs are suspected in the collision, and the case remains ongoing.
