Major crash involving dump truck, tractor-trailer kills 2, shuts down Route 22 in Indiana County
Two people have died following a major crash involving a tractor-trailer, a dump truck and a vehicle on a busy road in Indiana County. "There’s three vehicles involved, two fatalities, several individuals, it’s going to take several hours ," Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Danielle Noble said. The crash happened in the intersection of Route 22, Mt. Tabor Road, and Bowser Road in West Wheatfield Township. Indiana County District Attorney Robert F Manzi Jr. called the crash "significant."Pennsylvania State Police believe the vehicle, which was driving on Bowser Road, failed to stop at a stop sign when getting onto Route 22.That vehicle was then hit by a garbage truck, which was heading east on Route 22. After being hit by the garbage truck, the Pennsylvania State Police say it was hit by the tractor-trailer."It was just kept to those three according to our investigative details and the witnesses there at the time of the crash," Noble said. "An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene, the coroner, EMS, firefighters, FSU, and several other units as well."Authorities say two people in the vehicle died. The driver of the dump truck and the driver of the tractor-trailer were both taken to hospitals.Motorists are being advised to use a different route as part of Route 22 will be closed for several hours. "Just be cautious," Noble said. "There’s people traveling both ways on 22. They’re traveling at high rates of speed and we try to enforce that the best we can."Eastbound lanes have reopened, but the westbound lanes will remain closed until the scene is clear and officials complete crash reconstruction. Aerials of the scene from Sky 4, Pittsburgh's only news chopper, show that the crash involved a dump truck, a vehicle and a tractor-trailer.
