Lawrence: Fatal crash leaves one dead, others critical

LAWRENCE, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision in the town of Lawrence that occurred on May 29. On May 29, at approximately 9:19 p.m., police responded to the intersection of County Route 55 and U.S. Route 11 in the town of Lawrence for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, troopers say they located a gray 2017 Chevrolet Traverse and a gray 2016 Honda CR-V involved in the crash. A preliminary investigation revealed that Ricky L. DeShane, 55, of Brasher Falls, was reportedly driving the Chevrolet Traverse northbound on County Route 55 when he allegedly failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the front passenger side of a Honda CR-V traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 11. DeShane was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda CR-V was identified as Jesse P. Kaska, 49, of Chateaugay. Front-seat passenger Tammy L. Brunette-Kaska, 53, of Chateaugay, was joined by a 17-year-old male from Chateaugay, a 16-year-old female from Chateaugay, and a 14-year-old male from Brushton. According to troopers, all occupants of the Honda CR-V suffered serious injuries and were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital. The three juvenile passengers were later transferred to Upstate University Hospital, where they are in stable but critical condition. Kaska is in stable condition at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Tammy L. Brunette-Kaska succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
