Las Vegas driver in 12-car crash ordered to attend counseling; footage shows arrest, traffic stop

The 19-year-old suspect accused by Metro police of causing a deadly 12-car crash last week had previously been ordered to attend counseling for impulse control and had received a speeding ticket just a few weeks prior, as reported by 8 News Now Investigators. Jose Gutierrez is facing multiple charges, including two counts of open murder, after allegedly driving at 71 mph into cars waiting at a stoplight, resulting in the deaths of his pregnant girlfriend and another driver. Gutierrez made his initial court appearance with a cast on his arm and was denied bail due to the serious charges. The crash occurred at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard, and the victims were confirmed to be Gutierrez's girlfriend Adilene Duran Rincon, who was three months pregnant, and another driver named Edward Garcia. Gutierrez had a previous incident in April where he was arrested for hitting a woman and making threats to a police officer. Following a plea deal in June for misdemeanor charges, Gutierrez was ordered to attend impulse control counseling, which he completed in September. Additionally, he had been cited for speeding in October. Vanessa Lainez, a victim of the crash, was identified by her family as having sustained severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.
