Large utility truck crash shears hydrant in L.A. neighborhood
First responders were on the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Encino that sheared a fire hydrant and prompted a response from crews with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of the crash near the intersection of Hayvenhurst Avenue and Calneva Drive just after 3:30 p.m. Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the crash occurred, but aerial footage from Sky5 showed a geyser of water spewing from the sheared hydrant just feet away from an overturned utility truck used to trim large trees. Sky5 reporter Gil Leyvas said it did not appear that the large amount of water coming from the hydrant was impacting any homes in the area and that the runoff was making its way down the street into the sewer system. At least one Los Angeles Fire Department engine was spotted at the scene, with fire officials telling KTLA that no injuries have been reported. The intersection remained closed while crews worked to stem the flow of water and clear the wreckage from the residential neighborhood. No other details were immediately available.
