Lancaster County man identified as victim in Mifflin County reservoir crash

LEWISTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -- A Lancaster County man was identified as the driver killed when a tractor trailer crashed into the Laurel Creek Reservoir early Friday morning. Steven Larrabee, 72, of Christiana, was driving the tractor trailer, according to the Mifflin County Coroner's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. Friday along U.S. Route 322 when the truck left the highway, struck a guiderail and entered the Laurel Run Reservoir. The reservoir is the primary water source for the Mifflin County Water Authority. Numerous dive teams from across the region, including from Lewistown and Newton-Hamilton, responded to assist. Coroner Andrea Alcalde said an autopsy will be performed and the crash investigation remains ongoing. "The Mifflin County Coroner's Office extends its sincere appreciation to all responding agencies for their professionalism, coordination, and assistance throughout the response and recovery efforts," Alcalde said. The tractor-trailer was removed from the dam and, initially, there was no impact to water service as the authority stopped sourcing water from the reservoir. They switched to backup sources which failed Saturday morning prompting a "Do Not Drink" notice.
