Korean violinist triumphs in US contest post-car accident hiatus

Violinist Lim Hyun-jae achieved a significant triumph by winning the first prize at the 2026 Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition (EOIVC) in Florida on Sunday. After a lengthy break due to a car accident, Lim delivered an exceptional performance of Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor with the Lynn University Philharmonia Orchestra, as captured on the competition's website. Following her remarkable win, Lim received $30,000 in prize money and an additional $2,000 in special awards. She will also have the opportunity to perform on international stages over the next three years, including in cities such as New York, Boston, and Italy. Originally from Korea, Lim moved to the U.S. at a young age and graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music before gaining recognition as a promising talent in the classical music world. The EOIVC, established in 2017 by renowned violinist Elmar Oliveira, seeks to aid the professional development of young musicians. The competition, which is held every three years and is open to violinists aged 18 to 30, attracted around 90 participants from 20 countries this year during its two-week duration starting January 4th.
