Kauaʻi crash claims life of 38-year-old man

KAUAI, Hawaii (KHON2) -- A 38-year-old man is dead following a fatal crash involving a car and a moped on Kūhiō Highway in Anahola. The crash took place at 7:45 p.m. on April 1, the Kauaʻi Police Department said. According to initial reports, a 77-year-old man was driving a sedan when he attempted to make a left turn into a nearby lot. As he turned, police said that his car was hit by a black moped. The moped rider was identified as a Kapaʻa resident who died at the scene, officials said. He was not wearing a helmet during the collision, authorities said. As a result of the crash, Kūhiō Highway was closed in both directions for more than two hours as police investigated the scene. This marks the third traffic fatality on Kauaʻi of 2026.
