Kansas village snowplow destroyed by accidental fire

A new snowplow serving the Village of Kansas was completely destroyed after catching fire during snow clearing operations over the weekend. According to Valerie Staggs, the Village Clerk, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the driver noticed smoke inside the vehicle and pulled over. Despite attempts with an on-board fire extinguisher, the fire continued to grow, resulting in the driver calling 911 for assistance. Unfortunately, the fire caused extensive damage to the snowplow, which had only traveled 3,400 miles and was manufactured in 2024. Staggs mentioned that a similar recall notice for vehicles made in 2019 related to electric system issues was discovered following the incident. The village believes this was an unforeseen event and no one was to blame for the accident.
