ISP: Individual shot inside vehicle before accident in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. -- Deputies responded to the scene of an accident where an individual was also found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. Detectives with the Indiana State Police were called Friday morning to US 31 near County Road 200 North following a reported accident. Authorities arrived on the scene and discovered two individuals believed to be involved in the crash, as ISP confirmed one of them was suffering from a gunshot wound. ISP K9 units, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and an ISP helicopter were requested at the scene to assist in the search for any other suspects who may have fled into a nearby wooded area. No suspects were located during this search, according to ISP. Detectives later determined that the victim sustained the gunshot wound inside the vehicle before the reported accident. As the investigation continued, one of the individuals was found to have a narcotic drug in his possession. Police then arrested 19-year-old Jadyn Watts of Niles, Michigan, and transported him to the Miami County Jail for a level 6 felony. Meanwhile, the individual with the gunshot wound was brought to an area hospital, where they received non-life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under active investigation.
