iPhone alerts authorities to fatal crash northeast of Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - An iPhone crash alert notified rescuers of a deadly crash in northeast Sedgwick County early Sunday. It happened just before 2 a.m. on Greenwich Road northeast of Wichita. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said 911 received the iPhone crash notification but couldn't reach anyone. The sheriff said deputies and Bel Aire police responded and located a Honda Accord that rolled multiple times. The driver, identified as Israel Nava of Wichita, was ejected. He died at the scene. Investigators say Nava was traveling north on Greenwich Road when he left the road, hit a sign, fire hydrant and electrical box. The car then rolled. Witnesses told the sheriff's office that the car appeared to be going at a speed of nearly 100 mph. Impairment is also being investigated as a factor, the sheriff's office said.
