Investigation underway in Laurel County crash

Authorities in Laurel County, Kentucky have reopened traffic on I-75 after a fatal crash occurred early Tuesday morning. The Laurel County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the crash took place at mile marker 46 on I-75 around 3 a.m. The highway reopened around 7 a.m. as the investigation into the incident continued. A tractor-trailer was reportedly rear-ended by a Nissan Altima, resulting in the death of the Altima's driver, William Darnell. The tractor-trailer driver, Steven Patrick Jones, was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Court records indicate that Jones admitted to cocaine use within 24 hours of the crash and has been charged with driving under the influence. He is currently in custody and is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday morning.
