Indiana State Police searching for suspect implicated in fatal Montgomery County crash
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police's search for a man implicated in a fatal 2024 crash in Montgomery County entered its fourth month this week. According to court records, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 37-year-old Andre Kerley on Nov. 5. He faces five charges: According to court records, the fatal crash Kerley was involved in occurred on U.S. Highway 231 on Oct. 27, 2024. Previous reporting indicates the driver of a 2006 Freightliner RV was travelling northbound on U.S. Highway 231 before the crash. The crash happened when a Honda CR-V — which was being driven by Kerley — pulled into the RV's path. Per court documents, multiple people who witnessed the crash told police the CR-V's driver pulled into the RV's path. One of the witnesses said "the other vehicle drove into oncoming traffic; there was nothing the RV could have done to avoid the accident." After the crash, Kerley was transported to Crawfordsville Hospital. He was later transferred to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to have his injuries treated. Investigators reported that Kerley's passenger did not have a pulse when medics arrived at the scene. Court records identified Kerley's passenger as Emily Johnson. Police also indicated that the CR-V Kerley crashed during the incident belonged to Johnson. ISP's reporting on the incident suggests the CR-V's passenger side sustained heavy damage during the crash. The Freightliner RV only appeared to have minor front-end damage, per ISP. During their investigation, police had to apply for a search warrant for Johnson's blood because he was unconscious in the immediate aftermath of the crash. A toxicology report produced from that draw indicated that Kerley had Delta-9 THC in his blood during the crash. Per court records, a glass smoking device containing suspected marijuana and a small black container with a marijuana leaf sticker on it were found inside the CR-V. FOX59/CBS4 reached out to state police for a statement on the search for Kerley. ISP provided the following: "At this time, the search for Andre Kerley remains active and ongoing, and there is no further information to provide. We are following up on all leads. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post at (765) 567-2125 and ask to speak with Trooper Walsh."
