Motorcyclist died at scene of Windsor crash Friday

(WTNH) — A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash with an SUV near the intersection of Windsor Avenue (Route 159) and Meadow Road early Friday morning, police said. According to the Windsor Police Department, a 911 call was made at approximately 1:01 a.m. that a motorcyclist was trapped beneath an SUV. First responders, including Windsor volunteer ambulance services and firefighters, arrived on scene and made contact with the SUV driver. He told police he stopped at the light in the left turn lane of Meadow Road to turn onto Windsor Avenue, when he believed he saw a car coming in his direction. He later learned it was a motorcycle. The driver told police he saw sparks on the ground and felt the motorcycle hit the front of his SUV. The driver got out of his vehicle, saw the motorcyclist under the SUV and called 911. The crash closed Windsor Avenue in both directions between the I-91 North and South on and off ramps due to the crash for approximately five hours Friday morning. The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad (NCMARS) and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) responded to the scene.
