I-85 reopens after fiery tractor-trailer crash in Vance County, NCSHP troopers say

HENDERSON, N.C. (WNCN) – A tractor-trailer crash early Monday morning forced a major shutdown along Interstate 85 in Vance County. The incident occurred around 1:39 a.m. Monday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Officials said the southbound tractor-trailer veered off the right side of the roadway near mile marker 217, close to Parham Road. Troopers reported that the truck struck a road sign, sideswiped a bridge and ultimately came to rest against a guardrail, blocking traffic in both directions. The semi, which was carrying hundreds of gallons of fuel, caught fire after the crash, but the flames were quickly extinguished, troopers said. Authorities confirmed the vehicle was not carrying any hazardous materials at the time of the crash. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution and did not suffer serious injuries. Cleanup crews worked for hours to remove fuel spilled onto the roadway. Interstate 85 eventually reopened just after 6:30 a.m.
