I-76 closed after fatal semi crash spills detergent on highway

EDINBURG TWP., Ohio (WKBN) -- A man from New York is dead, and Interstate 76 East Bound is currently closed from State Route 14 to State Route 225 after a fatal crash involving a semi truck Wednesday night. According to Ohio State Highway Patrol in Ravenna, it happened just before 6:30 p.m. near milepost 46 in Edinburg Township. OSHP said a semi truck was disabled and parked on the right shoulder of I-76, with its driver inside the sleeper cab, when a pickup truck pulling a trailer drove off the side of the road, striking the semi. The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old man from Howard Beach, New York, died from his injuries at the scene. His name has not been released. The driver of the semi was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. OSHP confirmed after the semi crashed, it spilled laundry detergent onto the highway. The portion of I-76 has been closed since the accident, as OSHP said crews have to completely unload the semi by hand. First News will update this story when the highway is open again.
