I-69 crash in Grant County kills one, injures two
GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The Grant County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on I-69. According to a press release from the law enforcement agency, Sheriff's Deputies responded to a crash on the northbound I-69 near mile marker 272 on Tuesday at 6:33 a.m. Initial reports from Grant County Dispatch referenced multiple calls of a car flipped, with multiple people ejected and a person trapped inside a car. Once on scene, deputies determined that two trucks were involved in the crash: a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1996 Chevrolet truck with three people injured. One of the injured was Joseph Kidwell of Marion, who later died at the scene despite life-saving efforts from emergency medical responders. The remaining injured persons were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Upon investigation, Kidwell and his wife were on the side of the road after the truck broke down and were awaiting assistance from family when the Silverado passed a semi and veered off the road while switching lanes and struck the Kidwell's truck. Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene of the crash by Indiana State Police, Huntington County Sheriff's Office, Van Buren Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Marion Fire Department, Marion Health Medics, Grant County Emergency Medical Service, and Warren Emergency Medical Service.
