I-65 in Southern Indiana Closed Due to Semi Truck Fire and Military Munitions
Several incidents on Interstate 65 led to significant traffic issues in Jackson and Bartholomew counties on Tuesday morning. Emergency responders were busy handling a multi-vehicle crash and a separate vehicle fire carrying explosive military munitions. The Indiana State Police reported a four-vehicle collision on I-65 northbound near the 56-mile marker in northern Jackson County, resulting in the closure of all northbound lanes. Another serious incident involving a semi truck carrying around 300 howitzer rounds led to the closure of both directions of I-65 between Exits 55 and 64. An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is enroute to make the munitions safe and officials estimate it will take approximately four hours to reopen the interstate. Drivers are advised to find alternate routes and avoid the area until further updates from the Indiana State Police.
