I-196 Shut Down by 100-Car Pileup in Ottawa County, Injuries Confirmed

A major accident involving over 100 cars occurred on I-196 in Zeeland Township in West Michigan on Monday morning, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. There have been multiple injuries reported, but thankfully no fatalities so far. Both directions of I-196 between exits 62 and 55 are currently closed, and drivers are advised to avoid the area. The highway is expected to remain closed for several hours for vehicle removal and cleanup. Emergency services are on the scene providing medical assistance and transporting the injured to hospitals. The incident began around 10:19 a.m. on Monday with reports of multiple crashes in the area. Michigan State Police have stated that around 30 to 40 semi-trucks were also involved in the pileup. Hudsonville High School and Max Transit buses are helping to transport stranded drivers to the school, where further transportation arrangements can be made. Motorists are urged to stay in their vehicles until they can be taken to safety. Various law enforcement agencies are assisting the Sheriff's Office in managing the situation.
