Husband, wife dead after Raleigh crash flips RDU shuttle bus; car driver facing felony charges: Police
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A husband and wife are dead following a crash that flipped an airport shuttle bus in Raleigh Saturday afternoon, police said. According to the Raleigh Police Department, a Fast Park shuttle bus with Raleigh-Durham International Airport was involved in a crash with a Nissan Altima sedan just after 3 p.m. in the 9400 block of Glenwood Avenue near Lumley Road. An investigation determined the bus was traveling west on Lumley Road towards the airport and had the right of way to enter the intersection when the Nissan Altima traveling south down the ramp from Glenwood Avenue ran a red light and struck the bus. Police said the collision caused the bus to roll and flip. Two of the bus passengers, 48-year-old Scott D. Christofferson and 44-year-old Jennifer M. Christofferson, suffered life-threatening injuries. They were taken to the hospital, where they later died, according to Raleigh police. Police said the victims were husband and wife. According to Raleigh police, two additional passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One of the injured passengers is a juvenile and the child of the Christoffersons. The juvenile is continuing to recover at the hospital as of Monday morning, according to Raleigh police. Police said the bus driver was not injured. The driver of the Nissan Altima was identified as 70-year-old Barry W. Hayes, who is still recovering from his injuries as of Monday morning, according to Raleigh police.
