‘Have to be sorry for forgiveness’: Ybor City crash victim reacts to new arrest video
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — One of the 24 victims in the high-speed crash in Ybor City said newly released video of a suspect is making it hard to forgive. Patrol car footage released by the State Attorney's Office showed the suspect, Silas Sampson, moments after his arrest. The Florida Highway Patrol said he was driving over 80 mph while fleeing police just seconds before the crash. "Y'all are treating me like a criminal right now. I’ve never really been in any serious trouble like this, you know, why treat me like this?” Sampson said to officers in the video. "I don't know if he was sober fully or if he was all the way there, but it seems like he was detached,” said Richard Atwell, a victim in the crash. "You can't hurt so many people and say that you're a human being and then don't seem to have any kind of regard for the lives that you've affected." Atwell said he hopes that measures can be put in place so that this sort of thing never happens again. "You have to be sorry for forgiveness, and I don't see any kind of remorse for that,” Atwell said.
