‘Hard to watch’: Car slams into Florida school bus, becomes wedged underneath

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida motorist has received a citation after slamming into and then under a school bus in a crash that was all caught on camera. Shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, a black Jaguar became wedged under the bus after the driver failed to slow down as the bus, with its flashing lights activated, approached a bus stop, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said in a post to Facebook. You can see the video of the incident below. Viewer discretion is advised. Authorities said there were no students on board the bus, but the bus driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Jaguar was cited for "following too closely," the sheriff's office said. There was no information regarding whether the driver suffered any injuries. "The safety of our students going to and from school is our top priority," Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. "This video is incredibly hard to watch, and I thank God no students were on the bus and no one was seriously injured." Two citations have been issued to drivers at the bus stop after the recent implementation of a bus patrol, according to officials. The sheriff's office's traffic unit and fourth precinct have increased patrols in the area and "will not tolerate reckless driving of any kind," Marceno said.
