Grieving family remembers 20-year-old dad tragically killed in crash

It's a burden too heavy to bear.Clay Smith, along with his father Timothy, is now forced to live life without their son and their brother Hayden Davis."It's going to be a big impact on our family because, like I said, no matter what kind of situation he was in or what was going through, he always made sure to put a smile on your face." Timothy Smith said.Hayden is not biologically his child, but according to Hayden's grandmother, blood couldn't make them any closer.The Smiths are speaking up for the first time since Hayden's tragic accident.According to state police, a week ago, Hayden and Clay were driving on Highway 436 in separate cars. Hayden attempted to pass Clay in a no-passing area, and both cars spun out.Clay regained control of his car, while Hayden did not."I watched the car flip, and I watched him come out of it, and the only thing I could think of is to get to him," Clay said.The Smiths remember Hayden as a good and positive man, who loved his community and — most of all — his family.He leaves behind his grandmother, his fiancé, his 3-year-old son, and his unborn little girl.Now the Smiths are stepping in to try to relieve some of the financial burden."We are going to try to do enough for them that they would be okay, at least for a couple of months." Timothy said. "That way it will help her, for sure, with the babies."Several fundraisers are now happening on Hayden's behalf, including a car show Saturday, April 4, in the Junky Monkey parking lot in Franklinton at noon.The Cruising In benefit will feature old cars, which Hayden loved.All the proceeds will go to a headstone for Hayden's gravesite, and to his grandmother, fiancé and children.
