Gino’s Pizza employees reflect on fatal crash that claimed life of elderly woman

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) - An 82-year-old woman has died after a crash involving a Charleston Fire Department vehicle on the city’s West Side. The Charleston Police Department confirmed the victim’s name was Glenna Woodson and said that the crash occurred just before 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Lee Street West and Ohio Avenue. Investigators say a Charleston Fire Department SUV was responding to a dispatched call with emergency lights and sirens activated when it collided with a Toyota Camry in the intersection. At a Gino’s Pizza located right next to that intersection, employees there say they heard a loud boom and the power went out. They say they ran over to help. Jahvon Holman, an employee at Gino’s Pizza, said the incident had a significant impact on the restaurant staff. W.Va. Latest News: “It really affected me and my crew real bad, because we’re a local business restaurant and we serve the community,” Holman said. “So to see that happen, it really was devastating.” Employees said the scene they encountered after the crash was heartbreaking and has remained with them in the days since. Ebony Todd said the restaurant plans to honor Woodson’s memory despite never having met her personally. “I know that the Gino’s crew plans on putting up some type of memorial for her, even though we didn’t know her personally,” Todd said. “Our hearts still go out to her.” Employees at the restaurant say they see vehicles traveling at high speeds through that area consistently and encourage drivers to think about driving more carefully because you never know who could get hurt. They said their prayers are with Woodson’s family, and the Gino’s crew plans to create a memorial in Woodson’s honor at the intersection where the collision occurred.
